Thailand | Where happiness lives

Thailand | Where happiness lives

I just had the enormous pleasure to spend some time in Bangkok, Thailand for the first time in 15 years. That city has truly stepped into it’s own as an absolutely world-class destination. The difference I witnessed over my two visits was stunning. As usual, the food was one of my favorite parts. Thai culinary tradition has got to be the most diverse and flavorful…AND the best value in the world.

I loved seeing the changes in Bangkok, gone were the choking pollution and endless blaring horns, and the city felt like it was reveling in a cosmopolitan affluence that was perfectly balanced with the beauty of their ancient traditions.

The very best thing about Thailand is the overwhelming sense of happiness that was palpable everywhere I went. This is nothing new , this article from BBC Travel  perfectly sums up that Thai attitude and the concept of “Sanuk”, a uniquely Thai way of approaching the pursuit of happiness.

I was able to tap into this feeling while eating my way through the markets and even while gasping for breath through training at the world famous Jitti Gym, Muay Thai training center. The combination of the 95 degree heat with 95% humidity, my less than ideal conditioning,  and days of search and destroy missions on every unusual dish I could find was not enough to dampen my own taste of sanuk.
